Received a grey market camera with 3rd party batte 11/15/2013
Chris from Buffalo, NY
While the title of the listing clearly stating that this is a USA camera with warranty card, I was optimistic that I'd receive what I expected. Instead, I got a grey market unit, including a 3rd party battery (the original Nikon battery was not in the box). I could tell that the box had been opened and tampered with as soon as I received it. Very disappointing.

One of the best seller. Highly recommended! Although the Nikon D5100 was sent to me with manufacture warranty card missing, seller did explain well to me, and promised to take care of my brand new D5100 & lens at same standard available from Nikon
Got this on a deal. Good product at a decent price. Easy to use and very good picture quality.

Great Camera for money 5/8/2013
Novice from Medford MA
Novice looking to get into photography. Chose this camera based on several factors, but mainly because it is a good entry to mid level camera for learning. My first day out I took a good 300 photos, various settings, various environments, etc. Even in the hands of a novice the majority of the photos came out looking superb. Once I actually learn the ins and outs of the camera I can only imagine it will produce even better results. Also worth noting that while the camera only has a 1 year warranty, the lens came with a 5 year extended warranty. Pretty cool considering the lens has the internal autofocus motor.
Satisfactory result 5/6/2013
I buy Nikon 5100 ,give me very good result, very easy to use, with camera I got the lense is good, give wide angle in short distance...
Love my Nikon 5100 5/6/2013
SB from Greenville, SC
This camera is amazing! I did a lot of research before making my purchase and the Nikon 5100 seemed to be the best camera for the money. I have not been disappointed. I am still learning about some of the features but it is easy to use and takes crisp, clear pictures. I reccommend this camera to anyone!

Great Camera 4/22/2013
Very nice camera. Fairly small and light with lots of features.
Great Camera 4/18/2013
This is my second DSLR and by far my favorite. The functions all easy to reach within the menu system and the camera is perfect for beginners or experienced Photographers. The articulating screen is a welcome addition when shooting from difficult angles.

I own a Nikon D300 and I love that camera. It's a work horse, but it's heavy. I was looking for a camera that I could use as more of an every day type of camera. You know, something to grab to take a few shots without a lot of fuss, weight and fooling with settings. In other words, a fun, easy to use camera.
I had purchased one of the Micro Four Thirds cameras because it was light and small, but I found the quality lacking when compared to APS-C cameras. Also, most of the available Micro Four Thirds lenses are way too expensive for the quality you get with them; they're not that great. (The exception is the Panasonic 20mm lens - that's a good lens. Perhaps still a bit expensive.)
Enter the D5100. When I saw this camera, I knew it would be exactly what I was looking for. It's small, lightweight, easy to use but still maintains superb image quality. It's really outstanding in low light. I don't know what kind of algorithms Nikon is using, but shooting at ISO 1600 is no problem. Even the shots at ISO 3200 look good and clean up nicely.
The great thing about this camera is that it's versatile and flexible. You can shoot in auto, or you can use Aperture or Shutter priority for more control. If you're an advanced user, you'll be happy for the manual mode that allows you total control.
This camera really is the best of both worlds. A camera that an advanced amateur can use and at the same time feel confident that he/she can hand over to an inexperienced spouse or friend and know that the camera won't be too much for them to handle.
It's really a nice fit between the D3100 (more features, same sensor as the D7000) and less expense and bulk of the D7000. Plus, I love the flip out LCD.
Good things DO come in small sizes 4/15/2013
Upgraded from Nikon D3100 and I'm satisfied with extra I paid for Nikon D5100. Flip LCD screen is really useful in hard-to-access angles and self portraits. ISO performance compared to D3100 is better and it has more shooting options in video mode. AE bracketing is useful for photography novices like me.
Although weights more than D3100, doesn't feel it heavier. Easier to handle because of the small size. I love the camera so far.
I have had the Nikon D5100 for 1 month now, I have never owned a DSLR camera before this one (only the 8 MP camera on my smartphone), and I was blown away with the quality and ease of use that you get from this camera. I read over the manual several times before using all of the features that are baked into it, and now I have a excellent grasp on how to manipulate every aspect of the D5100. I could not have been more pleased with anything else for the price and quality of this camera, it was honestly the best $599 dollars I have ever spent. I plan on buying s second unit and converting it specifically for IR photography, more so I can capture crisp IR images, I must say that this camera takes very nice IR photographs just not at normal frame rates that you are accustom to with visible light photography. If you are at all hesitant on purchasing this because you feel it might be to much camera for you, you should reconsider. This will take the best family portraits, crispest action shots, and the quality of shots at night are mind boggling once you understand how ISO works. Get IT!!!!

Spacecoaster from Satellite Beach, FL
This is our first DSLR, so we don't have much to compare it to. It is easy enough to understand and operate. So far, we haven't had any issues. The unit is supposedly refurbished, but it appears brand new in every regard.
Awesome camera, Awesome price 12/5/2012
This is the second D5100 I bought this year. I liked the first so much I bought the second as a gift. It has most of the high end features of the Nikon D7000 without the high end price!

The Nikon D5100 with the lens kit is a great pro camera that fits the bill. It has a lot of features for the money and the shots are sharp and clear. You should be very happy with it.
One of the best SLR Camera from Nikon 5/18/2012
Kris from CA
This is my first SLR camera, and it took a lot of research to decide on this one. It;s in the top three greatest purchases I Have ever made! Besides the obvious factors of upgrading from a 12 MP Sony cyber shot, this thing just simply amazes me at the clarity and definition of the photos. I have fell in love with the auto-bracketing feature to create HDR shots. I have tried the video too its simply the best....I love it!!!!!!
Great for film school 4/20/2012
The D5100 has all the same features & specs as the D7000, but the D5100 has a swivel screen. Which I think makes it a better camera. I have used a lot of DSLR's in film school and found Nikon's have best the performance compared to other cameras when it comes to low key shoots. You can bump the ISO reasonably high and the image won't suffer from too much noise.
Amazing camera 3/25/2012
Chris from Miami fl
The D5100 is an amazing camera. So many feautures and functions.. It is probably the top of the line in affordable cameras. The refurbished camera came in a box with all it's accessories and I'm pretty happy with my purchase! I can't wait to use this at all our functions!
best buy 3/5/2012
great camera with the best lowest price.
The best in DSLR realm 1/12/2012
Finny from Omaha, NE
Go for Nikon d5100 when it comes to Digital SLR. Snapsort website ranks this camera as #1. Movies shot in this camera look great, with smooth motion and impressively low noise in dim light. easy interface with lot of manual controls for geeks. It also uses the same CMOS senser as the D7000 (which is a higher end DSLR), therefore it provides better image quality.

Broke after 2 months of light use 8/30/2011
Cameta Camera customer from E T
The D5100 has a lot of nice features for its price range but its quality is lacking. After owning this camera for two months a mechanism inside broke and it failed to take photos. All I'd get was a black screen. Tried different lenses batteries and memory cards. Still didn't work. A brand new camera should last longer than two months before it breaks and has to be shipped back to have parts fixed. It was not even subjected to any adverse or harsh conditions. In fact I missed out on several great shooting opportunities since I didn't want my brand new camera to get hot sitting in the car afterward. Good thing. It probably would have melted if it's that poorly constructed. The camera was not purchased at Cameta and it was a gift. If it wasn't too late I would have returned it. I recently discovered someone else having this problem with their D5100 as well. I'm not one to write bad reviews but I wanted to spare others the expensive misery of buying a bad product. I won't even go on about Nikon's customer service or lack thereof. Very disappointed in my first Nikon. (Previously used an Olympus and would gladly have purchased another but they're getting out of the SLR market.)
Excellent Camera Wonderful Value Bundle 8/30/2011
Cameta Camera customer from Phoenix AZ
Wonderful Camera. I upgraded from Point & Shoot camera and did lot of research before I moved into SLRs. Looked at D3100 and Canon T2i and Canon T3i in addition to Nikon D5100. Nikon D5100 wins. Wonderful picture quality lot of special effects great swivel screen and crystal clear video. Above all the bundle offered with the camera seals the deal. For [$] bucks you get a 32 GB memory card tripod remote cleaning accessories etc. Definitely worth the price.
Nikon has another hit! 8/30/2011
Cameta Camera customer from South Bend Indiana
I have had the D5100 for 4 weeks and used it to shoot a graduation birthday family reunion and misc panaramas. I have other Nikon point and shoot cameras so I haven't read the instructions but am pleased with the pics. The video is acceptable in the low light and unstable conditions I've had to shoot in. The audio is good too. I must spent time on the D5100 user manual which is on CD...a low point for me.
Best camera from nikon 6/23/2011

I just got this last week. I did do my homework before purchasing the item, and have also purchased an additional 55x300mm lens to go with it which also came today. Right out of the box the camera was great. The ease of going through the menus and changing settings is great. There are also images inside the menues so you have an idea of what those settings are used for and will do when you change them. I work in a rural area and on the way back from lunch I was able to snap a couple quick shots of ducks in the ditches that turned out really great (even on a lower image quality) after only having the camera for a few hours. From a beginner's stand point this couldn't be easier to use. I highly reccomend this camera.
